Turning Signals
As the car speeds around concrete traditions, Jason finds himself rushing towards the future and away from true love, casting ripples of doubt for his life and relationship with Bella.
Behind the Film
Jason and Bella are in love, but they’ve only been dating for a few months and they take very different approaches to what the end goals of that love are. They went to go get their marriage license but no one would see them; Jason is frustrated while Bella is relieved. Jason is ready to marry her but Bella doesn’t want to rush into marriage this soon, even though she loves him too. In the end, they understand that while love is an asset, it is really about enjoying the moments together. Only through time and togetherness can true love happen, and it cannot be achieved with the signing of a paper: it has to first be experienced.
The film’s idea was written, filmed, edited, and presented in one week. Filming was done in N Deck at GSU over a span of four overnights. The talent had to memorize the entire script in two days amidst shooting. The main camera of the film, a Canon Rebel T7, was purchased six hours before the shoot. This film WAS our cast and crews’ spring break in 2022. Point of the story: Sometimes you just have to go out and film an idea without worrying about checking all the boxes and ‘doing it right’. Just go out and film to make something that’s worth it to you.
Fun Fact: Over 80% of the film’s audio was done in post, while Jason & Bella’s conversation near the end is made up of over 40 intercuts.
Ford V. Ferrari - Mollie’s Driving
Turning Signal’s main inspiration was this incredible scene about a couple’s argument dramatized through both the speed of the shots and edit, as well as the speed the characters make for themselves within the space.
